Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is dipping its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project - dubbed the Space Key - is a piece of art that was created in collaboration with an unknown artist. The unique NFT is a physical object which connects to a unique digital artwork accessible through an QR code printed on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.
The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite material which Lamborghini shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an investigation project. The Key Lab was transformed into an original artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical element is inscribed with an NFT serial number which ties to the digital artwork by using QR codes on the back.
For those not in the aware, NFTs are unique identifiers stored on a blockchain ledger and tied to a digital asset such as a video, image, music or other record. This lets owners ensure the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.
Lamborghini takes this unique approach to art to a new level by working with NFT PRO - an white label NFT solution for business. In the coming months, Lamborghini will announce details about the exciting project. This includes the names of the artists unknown to them and a schedule for auction.
The physical element of the Space Key
Following multiple social media posts teasing something related to space, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has stepped into the realm of tokens that aren't fungible (NFT) with a unique project called Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with a mysterious artist and will be auctioned within a few weeks. Its underlying structure is composed of a high-tech carbon fibre composite material, which was delivered to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, digital design using the QR code that is on its backside. Just five Space Keys have been produced.
NFTs are unique identifications that can be stored in distributed ledgers, like the Blockchain, and linked to a digital asset like images. It's a hot topic among people with more money than they have common sense. It was only a matter of time before automakers decided to cash in.
Space Key consists of five units and was built using a physical piece of the carbon fiber composite which was delivered to the ISS in 2019. Each NFT will come with an QR code that will link it to a unique digital art piece by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more information will be revealed including the name and digital artwork of the artist, as well as how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, the luxury car maker Lamborghini finally announced its first venture for non-fungible tokens (NFT). The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that unlocks an exclusive digital artwork by an unidentified artist. The "collectors' piece" was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to five units. It will be auctioned off soon.
At the center of each Space Key is a block of carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved using a QR codes that connect to the digital element of the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times when the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.
Oefner used a balloon with a camera, which took each of the individual images, which were later merged into the final image. The result is an amazing out of the world image that reveals the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic view of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the auction haven't yet been revealed yet.
The auction
Lamborghini the luxury automaker has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the slogan "to the moon". The project was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm). The Space Key is essentially an NFT that contains carbon fiber composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 for research purposes. The physical sample has been transformed into five unique items that each link to exclusive and digital artworks created by an unidentified artist through the QR code printed on their backs.
The auctions will take place from February 1 to February 4. They will last for 75 hours and 50 mins - the amount of time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. The five NFTs are available for bidding by registering online. Each NFT will be auctioned off separately and the winner will be awarded an original digital artwork created by world-renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
The full details regarding the Space Key and its accompanying digital artworks will be revealed over the next weeks including the identity of the unidentified artist and information on how to purchase these extraordinary creations. Follow Lamborghini's Instagram for all the information you need!
